The consultation usually takes 30-45 minutes and is conducted by a travel medicine specialist who has immediate access to the team of specialists if there are any health-specific questions or concerns.
The consultation provides an in-depth review of:
- Medical History such as current medication and allergic history, evaluation of travel itineraries and risk assessment
- Your questions and concerns, including Immunizations you need for travel, Letters explaining medical conditions and medical waivers for border officials
- Information Included:
- Itinerary-specific illness
- Disease prevention and self-treatment
- Water, food and environmental precautions
- Safety tips
- Health care and Consulate resources
All information about your medial history, current medical issues, allergies, medications, immunization information and recommendations are kept in a confidential, electronic file which can be used for further pre-travel concerns or future travel consultations.

Malaria prevention and prophylaxis

Due to the prevalence of multi-drug resistant malaria strains in Thailand and Southeast Asia, antimalarial prophylaxis should be guided by qualified medical staff. Over-the-counter antimalarial drugs are not recommended.=
At Patong Travel Clinic, we offer thorough consultations on the latest malaria epidemiology and associated travel risks.
We will advise you on malaria prevention strategies and determine if antimalarial medication is necessary for your trip.
Tuberculosis screening test

1. Tuberculin skin test (TST, Mantoux test)
Tuberculin skin test is available in our hospital.
However this service will be available on Tuesday only.
Since the travelers/patients need to come back 72 hours later for interpretation of the test. Appointment is required for this service.
2. Interferon-gramma release assay (IGRA, QuantiFERON)
This is a blood test that aids in the detection of M. tuberculosis.
This test provides good sensitivity and specificity. It is unaffected by previous BCG vaccination.
We provide this service only on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 8.30 -11.00 AM.
Travelers’ diarrhea treatment

Travelers’ diarrhea is very common in travelers. Most travelers’ diarrhea are mild and spontaneous recovery. However in some cases it is recommended to see a doctor.
Rabies post-exposure treatment

Possible rabies exposure is a medical urgency. If you are bitten or scratched by a dog, cat, monkey, or any mammal, it is crucial to clean the wound thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical attention immediately. In most cases, you will need to receive a rabies vaccine and possibly immunoglobulin.
At Patong travel clinic, we provide rabies vaccination including for prophylaxis or post-exposure.Rabies immunoglobulin is also available.
Diagnosis and Treatment of Tropical Diseases

Travelers from the Western world may encounter tropical infections while visiting the tropics. Symptoms indicating tropical infections can include fever, diarrhea, skin rashes, and more. These symptoms may appear during or after their trips. It’s crucial for patients to inform doctors about their travel history to assist in accurate diagnosis.
If you become ill in the tropics, seeking medical care is strongly recommended, as some tropical diseases, like malaria, can be fatal without prompt treatment. At our clinic, we specialize in Tropical and Travel Medicine. We offer comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis, laboratory testing, and treatment for various tropical diseases such as:

Remark: It is strongly recommended to contact us first if you have one or more of the following conditions;
1. Has been diagnosed with tropical diseases or currently receive treatment from other hospital
2. Want to have a second opinion on your illness whether it is related to tropical diseases or not
3. Have a long/chronic signs/symptoms that suspected tropical diseases
4. Want to test for some parasites/worms in your body
5. Currently not live in Phuket, but want to fly to Phuket to receive medical care from us
